About
Decodable Book Finder is a free catalog of decodable books: early readers written using only the phonics patterns a student has already been taught. Most U.S. states now have laws pushing reading instruction toward structured phonics, so millions of parents and teachers are shopping for decodables, many for the first time. The information they need is scattered. Charts of which series teach which skills sit in long spreadsheets, prices are spread across a dozen publisher stores, and formats are buried in PDF footnotes.
This site puts the major series in one place. You can filter them by the phonics skill each one teaches, then see what a set costs and where to buy it. The catalog grows one publisher at a time, and a series is added only after its skills have been checked.
Who it's for
Adults choosing books for early readers: parents, teachers, and homeschoolers. The site has no accounts or comments, nothing on it is aimed at children, and the only tracking is privacy-friendly analytics that uses no cookies.
What it will never do
- List skills the publisher didn't state without labeling them as inferred (see the methodology)
- Host user reviews, ratings, or logins
- Use AI to write "decodable text." Every listing is a real book from a real publisher.
Who runs it
Decodable Book Finder is built and maintained by one person, Ian Anderson. I care a lot about education, but I'm not a reading specialist, so the site is set up not to depend on my judgment. Skills come from the publisher's own materials and link to their source. If a publisher doesn't say what a set teaches, the set isn't listed. No publisher pays to be listed or to be placed higher, and the site isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any publisher it lists.
