About
Decodable Book Finder is a free, filterable catalog of decodable books — readers whose text is restricted to phonics patterns a student has already been taught. Most U.S. states now have laws pushing reading instruction toward structured phonics, which means millions of parents and teachers are suddenly shopping for decodables. The information they need exists, but it's scattered: alignment data in giant spreadsheets, prices on a dozen publisher stores, formats in PDF footnotes.
This site is the shopping layer: major series brought into one place, filterable by the phonics skill each one teaches, with prices, formats, and direct buy links. The catalog grows publisher by publisher, and a series is only added once its alignment passes review.
Who it's for
Adults, exclusively — parents, teachers, and homeschoolers choosing books for early readers. There are no accounts, no comments, nothing kid-facing, and no tracking beyond privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics.
What it will never do
- Publish an alignment the publisher didn't state, without labeling it as inferred (methodology)
- Rank or recommend books because of affiliate commissions (disclosure)
- Host user reviews, ratings, or logins
- Generate "decodable text" with AI — this is a catalog of real books from real publishers
Who runs it
Decodable Book Finder is built and maintained by one person — Ian Anderson. I'm passionate about education, but I'm not a reading specialist — and the site is designed so it doesn't need me to be one: every alignment is the publisher's own published claim, linked to its source, and anything that couldn't be verified that way stays out of the catalog. No publisher pays for inclusion or placement, and the site isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any publisher it lists.
If I've read a scope or sequence wrong, tell me and I'll fix it: decodablebookfinder@gmail.com.
