Decodable books for morphology & affixes
Morphology is the study of meaningful word parts, the prefixes, suffixes, and roots that carry meaning rather than just sound. The common endings come first: -s, -ed, and -ing turn one word into many, so jump becomes jumps, jumped, and jumping. From there readers meet prefixes like un- and re- (unhappy, redo) and, later, the roots that anchor whole families of related words. This is where decoding starts to shade into vocabulary, because a child who recognizes a word part can often work out both how to read a new word and what it means. Morphology builds on solid decoding, so it fits best once a student reads single- and multisyllabic words with some ease.
A practical sign of readiness is a reader who handles the base word fine but stumbles on the ending, reading walk correctly and then stalling on walked, or dropping the -ing altogether. Drawing their attention to the part usually settles it. Just Right Reader Decodables and Phonic Books' Talisman weave these endings and prefixes into text so they show up in context rather than on a flashcard, and Magic Belt keeps them appearing across a longer story. Over time the reward is smoother reading alongside a growing sense of how English words are built from pieces.

Common questions
What are decodable books for morphology & affixes?
Meaningful word parts: prefixes, suffixes like -ed, -ing, and -s, and common roots. The bridge from decoding to vocabulary. Decodable books for this skill use only words a student can sound out with it (plus previously taught patterns), so new readers practice decoding instead of guessing.
How is this list put together?
Every alignment comes from the publisher's own published scope and sequence — never from third-party spreadsheets — and each record links its source. Sets that introduce morphology & affixes as the new skill are listed before sets that only practice it.
